Greetings again from Montreal Canada. The month of June is our halfway mark, having spent 9 months outside the U.S. We are happy to spend our time in the Lord's service.
We were excited to have a Turkish Moslem woman, the Mother of a man in our ward, get baptized today. That sort of thing is rather rare anywhere in the world. Nearly every week-end there is either one or two baptisms. The young missionaries are working hard and spreading the word of God. The church is growing rapidly.
The lowering of the age for missionary service has brought a remarkable increase in both Elders and Sisters in the mission. By September our missionary force will have doubled in size. This in turn has brought an increase in cars at the Canada Montreal Mission. Eighteen new cars have been assigned to our mission, raising the total to sixty vehicles. Elder Arhets is concerned about next winter, when accidents of all sorts occur during the winter months. Sister Arhets also had more work because of the tremendous increase of supplies, phones, records of all sorts, and training.
Of course the best part of the mission is being with the young missionaries. They are busy teaching the gospel in more than half a dozen languages. It's interesting to see an Elder from the U.S., France, or Tahiti rattle off in Mandarin Chinese. The gift of tongues is definitely evident among God's servants. These beautiful young men and women love the Lord and want to serve Him with all their heart, might and strength. They work hard. They radiate the love of Christ. They are awesome.
Two weeks ago we went to Ottawa for zone conference. The city is quite beautiful. We enjoyed the vast display of tulips all along the canal. We were not able to visit the Federal Government buildings, which, from the outside, are very imposing and majestic buildings because of construction and lack of parking places. The roofs of those buildings appear green, being covered with copper which has oxidized.
One of the couples who worked in the office with us, the Conways, went home and was replaced by the Bendios. A new sister from North Carolina, Sister Abrams, has come to take the place of Sister Conway. Both Sister Abrahms and the Elder Bendio are very accomplished computer experts, so their training period has been very short.
The weather has turned summer like and the flowers, trees, and bushes are all blooming very nicely.
We are sending all of you our best wishes for continued spiritual progress. May all of us keep our sights focused on the glories of eternal life so that none of us will fall away from the straight and narrow path that leads to Heavenly Father's presence.
We love you,
Elder and Sister Arhets

ReplyDeleteMy son Zach will go on his mission around Christmas, after attending one semester at ASU. He will be 18 1/2 by then. He is excited to start on his papers as soon as our bishop gets them for him!
